Harrington Falls, Nova Scotia
“I while ago I read somewhere about there being an abundance of waterfalls in Nova Scotia. I’ve always enjoyed visiting waterfalls in other parts of the world, but have heard very little about the waterfalls right here in our backyard. I’ve made it a mission to visit as many of these waterfalls as possible. After doing some more research on the web, Ben and I decided to head for the Cobequid mountains in Colchester County, NS to see if we could find some waterfalls. I’ve read that there are 10 or more in this region alone. Our first waterfall: Harrington Falls Finding Harrington Falls was not easy. We used the directions found here. But I will provide the GPS coordinates for the falls below which should be of some help for anyone trying to locate them. Once we actually managed to find the unmarked trail that led us to the falls, it was a short 15 minute hike into the gorge. The last part of the descent is quite steep and extreme care should be taken on the loose rock. At the base of the waterfall there was a wonderful round pool surrounded by tall, overhanging cliffs. At the top was a thin stream of water relentlessly plunging into the pool below. We visited the falls in early May which meant there was ample water flowing over the falls, but I would imagine that later in the summer it would be only a trickle. Harrington Falls in by far the most beautiful waterfall I’ve seen in Eastern Canada. And what makes it even more impressive is it’s remote location and inaccessibility. The GPS coordinates for Harrington Falls are: +45° 27′ 25.08″, -64° 7′ 10.98″” (One of David Watson's photo albums)
