2007 paddling
Let's hope there's more to this year's paddling season than there was last year.
lame, lamer, lamest
Another disappointing day on the water. I decided to take the (whitewater) kayak over from Cherry Beach to the islands. But the winds were just enough to create some waves that were pushing the boat around and sending water over the hull. So the thought of getting over to the south side of the islands and then getting in trouble in the open water was enough to make me wuss out and turn back.
There was a strange black rope with small black floaters that was "blocking" the mouth of the bay (Cherry Beach side) right where I would have crossed to eastern gap to the islands. I ought to find out if it has significance.
Just talked to the Toronto Police Marine Unit. They said that it's perfectly OK to paddle to the islands from Cherry Beach, or from any place for that matter. You can go right around the islands, including by the airport, and through the western gap or the harbour channel on the east. Just stick close to the shore when you do.
Just checked the Weather Network. Looks like wind was somewhere between 13 and 17 knots when I was out. I gotta go back when there's no wind. Dammit, I want to paddle to the island!
