Captain's Log

With two small kids my time for outdoor adventure has diminished. However I'm now trying to find activities that will suit my new lifestyle. This blog will follow my outdoor pursuits in general and this year will focus a lot on my experimentation with sailing.

The Baths

In the caves at The Baths

Today we went to The Baths. It was about a 15-20 minute taxi ride from our hotel and we were wearing Avery in the Bjorn.

When we got there it was about a 10 minute hike down to one of the most gorgeous beaches we have ever seen. Massive boulders were everywhere and framed in beautiful blue water and golden sand.

From there we dropped off our stuff and started the hike into the caves and over to Devil's Bay. The hike was a highlight of our trip as you are going over and under these massive boulders and through tide pools that have formed within the caves. It was fun to have Avery in the Bjorn as we ducked and went up and down steep inclines on the rocks. She was definitely experiencing something cool at a young age!

As we approached Devil's Bay (maybe 15 minute hike) it started to rain. Luckily we found a really cool cave to sit under and lay Avery on a towel and we used it as a basecamp for the group to snorkel from.

The snorkeling was incredible! These massive boulders go down 20-30 feet in some spots to a gorgeous sand bottom. All sorts of marine life use the boulders as mini ecosystems so the diversity is incredible.

Within the group we saw an eel, a stingray, lots of small squids and a ton of fish. This is a place you could spend a lot of time at.

Right off-shore maybe 150 yards there were lots of sailboats tied to mooring bouys. What a spot to come on a sailboat charter!

wow, that's wicked.
Can you put me in a bjorn and carry me around the BVIs? I promise not to poo myself.
