Dominica Bliss

Splashing around the rainforest

Hike and swim at Sari Sari Falls

There's something about stepping out of small twin prop plane on a tropical island with a few other travelers and a handful of locals to make you realize you're about to start a big adventure. Next up is sitting behind the wheel of your pint size 4X4 and pulling onto the rugged coast road with crashing waves on one side and lush rain forest on the other. Welcome to the island of Dominica. Most people assume you're heading to the Dominican but let's get one thing straight...there are no major beaches in Dominica and no big resorts. This is an adventure playground where you can dive in the morning, hike to huge waterfall in the afternoon and hang in a local bar for dinner.

What you will find in Dominica are friendly locals who greet you with "Alright" and are happy to point you in the right direction or talk about their "Nature Island" with pride. Stay in a small inn in the rainforest or a dive hotel down be the Caribbean. Or both.

It's easy to get around and the island's many natural attractions are a beautiful short drive away from each other. Guides are easy to work with, if you require one for canyoning or hiking to the Boiling Lake.

If you're looking for an easy holiday at an all inclusive resort - go the the Dominican.

If you're looking for a real Caribbean experience with lots of adventure - head to Dominica!

Our trip was from Dec 26 - Jan 6, 08.

We stayed at the Zandoli Inn (Canadian Owned) The Anchorage Hotel and Papilotte.

Wow! What a beautiful photo. I knew NOTHING of this place and am already salivating to go! Thanks for the inspiration.

Sounds amazing. Nice to get away from the cruise ship scene!

Nature Island. Sounds great. I keep hearing about this place - and the people that talk about it like a micro-New Zealand.
