Day 1 - OR Show: Little known facts

Looking down on a small segment of the OR show in Salt Lake City.

My first long day at OR is over. I had 16 appointments between 9 am and 6 pm. I'm tired now. But it was a productive day. I saw some cool new technology from GoLite Shoes (watch for hiking boots), Osprey packs (refined suspension system in the frame) and Marmot (ultra light jackets and new packs). I can't wait to get my hands on some samples to give it all a try.

As always I learned some interesting facts today. Feet don't sweat on the soles, just on the tops and between the toes. One third of a shoe's weight is in gluing and stitching. Depth of lugs on a trail runner does not always relate to more traction. And some manufacturers don't want pictures taken of their booths for proprietary reason. I also got an email with a few other fun facts about Utah State law, just in case you happen to be passing through. Here they are and remember ignorance is not a defense:

It is against the law to fish from horseback.

It is illegal not to drink milk.

It is illegal to detonate any nuclear weapon.

Birds have the right of way on all highways.

A husband is responsible for every criminal act committed by his wife while she is in his presence.

You’re not allowed to sell beverages containing more than 3.

It is a felony to persistently tread on the cracks between paving stones on the sidewalk of a state highway.

It’s legal for restaurants to serve wine with meals, but only if you ask for the wine list.

It is considered an offense to hunt whales.

No one may have sex in the back of an ambulance if it is responding to an emergency call.

Alcohol may not be sold during an emergency.

Individuals may not possess beer in containers larger than two liters unless they are a retailer.

Boxing matches that allow biting are not allowed.

It is illegal to cause a catastrophe.

Is it legal to drink milk from containers larger than two litres?

Bet those people with lactose intolerance are really steamed about the milk laws!
