Bagging the eye candy

Do you have a mountain, lake or river that has been staring you in the face for so long? You're just dying to check them out. If everything goes according to plan, I will knock two of these pieces of adventure eye candy off on Friday and Saturday.

I'm off for a few days of ski touring in Strathcona Provincial Park. Our destination is mounts Adrian and Alexandra. The mountains are on the eastern boundary of the park overlooking the Strait of Georgia and the communities of the Comox Valley and Campbell River. I see them all the time. They loom large from Mount Washington Alpine Resort, with funky looking terrain that just begs to be explored on skis.

The conditions are perfect right now. We have a deep snowpack that has only just started to melt with a few days of rain and the next few days are supposed to be warm and sunny - perfect ski touring conditions.

We'll play it safe by getting up early, so we're back in camp before the heat of the day starts bringing down cornices and wet snow avalanches. I'm looking forward to exploring a new area and will share some of the experiences and photos with you when I get back.

While I'm gone let me know about the adventures sitting in your backyard begging to be done. My next "To do" is the Comox Glacier. What's yours?

Too many to count! My dreams have always exceeded my very limited time out in the wild. But I'll keep dreaming...
