Wooden Heritage Association's Assembly in Peterborough this week

Peterborough's Trent University hosting the 2008 Wooden Canoe Heritage Assembly

Thought everyone should know that the 2008 Wooden Canoe Heritage Association is holding their annual assembly at Trent University in Peterborough this week http://www.wcha.org/assembly.php I was there today moderating the opening event titled “Canoescapes” where everyone gathers to read a favorite script. It was an uplifting part of the event, to be in a room sharing with so many like-minded people. Tomorrow I’m heading two paddle seasons – a morning paddle in the Kawarthas and the marsh near the University in the afternoon.

Here are the other events happening. The 2008 Annual Assembly special features: • The Lakefield Region Canoe Builders Keynote Speaker: Dick Persson, Headwater Wooden Boat Shop • The Canadian Canoe Museum special tour

EVENT PROGRAM INCLUDES: • Historical/Heritage: presentations and displays regarding research, documentation, identification • Construction & Repair Skills: construction, repair & restoration, hands-on activities, workshops & demonstrations • Marketing ("Cedar City"): displays & sales by builders & restorers, paddle makers, and other canoe related materials, including books and related publications • Canoeing Skills: active, water & land-based activities & workshops, demonstrations including paddling, sailing, tripping • Social: music, campfires, traditional "Ladies Tea", workshops and craft activities • Children's Program: hands-on craft workshops. on-water canoeing instruction and other fun recreational activities • 2008 Assembly Raffle Quilt: Another fine quilt to be raffled this year (click on thumbnail for large image).
