Paddler's Guide to Happy Camping
This is Kevin Callan's blog about his trips, his (mis-)adventures, and his favourite gear.
Americans Invade Canada
Members of the Wooden Canoe Heritage had some of the best looking canoes I've ever seen. Thank goodness we didn't hit any rocks throughout the day.
Just got back from a long day of paddling at the annual Wooden Canoe Heritage Assembly held in Peterborough this year. My vounteer job today was to guide a morning paddle on the Indian River in Warsaw and then an afternoon paddle on the Trent Severn. Had 51 canoes in total take to the water - all from the US. We had paddlers come to this event from as far as Texas. Wow. They take their canoeing serious.
Got to say, I was quite proud to take so many Americans paddling in Canada for the day. It was a very unlifting experience to say the least. All participants were wowed at what we had to offer for canoeiing and I got to say the only disappointment of the day is that it ended to soon - next time this event is held in Canada I will definitely organize an overnight trip rather then half-day paddles.
