RIP Sir Edmund Hillary

Now that he has passed I'm learning much more about what he really accomplished in his long life that, in my mind, tops his first ascent of Mt. Everest.

Summited second

After Tensing Norgay passed Hillary finally admitted that Tensing, his sherpa, actually summited first, followed by Hillary.

Not admitting this at first has always bothered me a bit but now that he has passed I'm learning a lot about all of the great things he has done and places he has explored during his life.

No matter what, it must have been one hell of a climb in 1953 considering the technology of the time compared to what we are used to today.

You might want to post a reference for this assertion since it relates to a controversy that has been very active in the mountaineering community for decades. Just a thought.

Cheers,
