Santa Lucia de los Cerritos is a well-known surf spot with a beach break, at the tip of the Baja peninsula in Mexico. Cerritos is a great spot for both the experienced surfer and beginners.

The tan-and-black beach is lovely, and inland is the desert, which is quite a sight in its own right, with huge cacti and other wild vegetation.

Getting There

Cerritos is located at KM 66 on the highway from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Cerritos when driving from Cabo San Lucas.

Turn left off of the highway onto a dirt road.

Surfing

There is often a sandbar where the water shimmers with fool's gold, giving it a surreal quality.

Paddle out into this right point break, with variable waves on the inside; and depending on the sand bar, you can often catch some nice lefts that peel into beautiful tubes. Cerritos breaks steadily, set after set, with no frequent waiting time between sets. This creates a constant white water parade of waves on the inside shallow water, making it a wonderful place to learn how to surf.

Local surf instructors can be found. (details needed)

Before and After

At Cerritos you will find the classic mexican fish tacos (muy rico!), cooked fresh by Chepina (detail needed), served under a palapa, right there on the beach.

Accommodation

Many surfers come camping, from all over the world.
