Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve
The Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve is a privately owned forest in the Haliburton Highlands of northern Ontario. The Reserve includes over 60,000 acres of rolling hardwood forests, beautiful and clear lakes, meandering rivers and extensive wetlands. One of the unique features of the Haliburton Forest is that it is Canada's first "certified sustainable forest", meeting the very strict standards of the "Forest Stewardship Council", supported by such organizations as the WWF and the Sierra Club.
Haliburton Forest is about a 2 3/4 hour drive from Toronto. From Toronto come up Highway 35 to the 118 at Carnarvon. Go along the 118 to West Guilford where you will cross the bridge and take Country Road #7 for approximately 20 km until you come to base camp. There are signs along the way.
The Reserve is an outdoor lover's paradise where the following activities are at your finger tips: world-class mountain biking on 300 kilometers of trail, fishing on over 50 lakes filled with trout and other fish, snowmobiling within 50,000 acres, camping, hiking, and even a "walk in the clouds" canopy tour.
