Learn how to rock climb
If you are interested in learning how to rock climb, there are two broad sets of skills that you will want to acquire.
First, you'll want to learn the art of climbing. If you live in a city, this is best done at a local indoor climbing gym, where you can receive safe and convenient instruction on the most efficient techniques for negotiating your way up various types of rock face. Essentially, your objective is to build up a personal dictionary of moves that you can creatively call on to solve climbing problems that might first appear impossible. With the proper technique, you don't have to be exceptionally strong to climb onto and around an overhanging rock; without the proper technique, all the strength in the world won't help you.
Second, you will want to learn the theory and practice of safe climbing outdoors--preferably by taking a course taught by experts. This includes topics such as: selecting the proper equipment, procedures for inspecting your equipment, tying safe knots, anchoring your rope, belaying your partner, placing anchors, rappelling/descending, and communicating clearly and unambiguously with your partner. By adopting practices that utilize redundant systems and avoiding practices that create a single point of failure, you minimize the risk of an unnecessary accident and build the confidence required to enjoy the sport.

Beautiful pictures. I've only ever climbed in a gym, but they made me want to take it outside.
