Nakalele Blowhole, Maui
Located on the north side of west Maui is a fantastic hike down to Nakalele Blowhole. You can find this spot by driving north on the Honoapiilani Highway - Highway 30 on most maps.
About a half mile past the Mile 30 marker is a dirt parking lot on the ocean side of the highway. Park here and it's a beautiful 25-30 minute hike down to the blowhole. The actual distance is only about 1/2 mile.
Follow the dirt paths that come together near the final descent. There are some steep and rocky sections.
You can get as wet (or not) from the blowhole since traction around it is quite good. But be relatively careful and NEVER stand between the ocean and the blowhole since large waves often crash over top of the rocks on that side.

is it a geyser, or is it water from waves that gets forced up through a rock?

Water from waves coming through deep, large holes in the rock. Super cool to see.
