The Termas de Puritama ("Puritama Hot Springs") are found just northeast of the town of San Pedro de Atacama, in the north of Chile.

The land surrounding the springs was bought by the Hotel Explora, which built a series of eight small pools that spill into one another, each surrounded and secluded by tall grasses. The hotel also built boardwalks that connect the pools. Admission must be paid to access the springs. (Details needed -- can you help?)

Most tour operators in San Pedro de Atacama can arrange a trip to the springs. Some hotels, such as the Hotel Awasi, also provide their own guide services for trips to Puritama.

The springs can be reached by hiking up the gorge from Guatin to Puritama, or by car. The hike is beautiful, rising from about 2,500 metres above sea level to about 3,000 metres, through a rugged and beautiful landscape that's barren desert except for the immediate vicinity of the river (flowing from the springs).
